Home maintenance tips for cleaning and appliance care

Various household maintenance guides offer advice on cleaning, appliance care, and repairing domestic items to extend their lifespan and reduce waste.

For flooring, experts advise against using sharp metal tools like knives or screwdrivers to clean gaps in wooden parquet, as this can scratch the surface or damage the edges. Wood naturally expands and contracts with humidity, making debris accumulation common.

In the kitchen, certain items should be hand-washed rather than placed in a dishwasher. This includes wooden utensils and cutting boards, which can warp or split, cast iron pans, which may lose their protective seasoning and rust, and high-quality knives, which can become dull or rusted due to aggressive detergents.

Regarding appliances, repairing components like worn rubber seals, knobs, or pumps can be more cost-effective and sustainable than purchasing new machines. Additionally, regular maintenance of washing machines—specifically cleaning the detergent dispenser, door seals, and filters—is recommended to prevent residue buildup.
