Household maintenance tips for indoor air and heating

Proper management of indoor air and heating systems is essential for maintaining a healthy living environment and preventing mold growth. As humidity levels increase in many areas, failing to manage moisture can lead to condensation on cold surfaces, creating conditions for mold. Common mistakes include insufficient ventilation, such as only using tilted windows, or failing to turn off heating while airing out rooms.

Effective ventilation involves opening windows wide to create a draft, which allows for faster air exchange. Recommended durations are approximately 20 to 30 minutes in summer and five to ten minutes in winter. Maintaining a minimum room temperature of 17 degrees Celsius is advised to prevent rooms from cooling too much, which helps mitigate moisture issues.

Additionally, cleaning heating systems before the heating season begins can improve efficiency. Many radiators feature small, inconspicuous white plastic tabs on the sides. Removing and turning these tabs allows for the removal of side panels and grilles, enabling thorough cleaning of the radiator's interior with a vacuum or brush.
