Household maintenance tips for towels and parquet floors

Common household items can be used to restore and maintain home surfaces and textiles. To restore softness and absorbency to stiff towels, white distilled vinegar can be used as a substitute for fabric softener. Adding 100 to 150 ml of vinegar to the softener compartment during a wash cycle helps remove mineral deposits and detergent buildup. It is advised not to mix vinegar with chlorine-based bleach and to avoid overloading the washing machine to ensure proper rinsing.

For maintaining shiny parquet floors, adding a few drops of glycerin to lukewarm water can help achieve a smoother, glossier finish. However, excessive amounts of glycerin or cleaning agents can leave a greasy or cloudy film. To prevent damage, floors should be vacuumed or swept before cleaning, and cloths should be well-wrung to avoid excessive moisture penetrating the wood.
