Household management: Planning appliance purchases and reducing food waste

Managing household resources involves both financial planning for large purchases and reducing daily waste. When essential appliances like refrigerators or washing machines fail, consumers must balance the need for immediate replacement with long-term budgeting. Financial tools such as consumer loans or debt consolidation may be considered to manage these unplanned expenses.

To combat food waste, Lidl Lietuva suggests creative ways to use leftover ingredients. Monika Anilionė, sustainability manager at Lidl Lietuva, notes that many products marked with ‘best before’ dates are still safe to consume, as these dates often refer to quality rather than safety. Common household items like stale bread, wilting vegetables, or overripe fruit can be repurposed into soups, croutons, or desserts to save money and reduce environmental impact.
