Household methods for clearing clogged drains

Common household issues such as slow-draining sinks and unpleasant odors in kitchens or bathrooms can often be addressed with simple products before calling a plumber.

One effective option is Denkmit liquid drain cleaner, available at dm stores. This chemical solution is designed to break down hair, grease, and soap scum. In Serbia, a one-liter bottle costs approximately 1.53 euros, while in Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is priced at around 1.76 euros. Users are advised to pour up to 500 ml directly into the drain and let it sit for 30 minutes, or overnight for stubborn clogs, before rinsing with warm water. Due to its high sodium hydroxide content, protective gloves and eye protection are required.

Alternatively, for minor kitchen clogs caused by grease and food particles, dishwashing detergent combined with hot water can be used. Experts suggest pouring detergent into the drain, waiting 10 to 15 minutes, and then flushing with hot water to help dissolve fatty deposits.
