Household robots: Many owners give autonomous devices names
A survey by Bitkom Research reveals that many consumers in Germany have developed an emotional connection to their autonomous household robots. Approximately 33 percent of owners of vacuum, window cleaning, or lawn mowing robots have given their devices names.
This anthropomorphism extends to how users interact with the machines; 37 percent of owners reported scolding their robots, while 36 percent stated they sometimes thank them.
In light of these trends, the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) advises consumers to prioritize cybersecurity when making purchasing decisions. The BSI recommends evaluating factors such as the availability of software updates, the necessity of smartphone apps, and the specific data access rights and storage locations requested by the device's software.
