Household tips for ironing and iron maintenance
Practical household methods can improve ironing results and maintain appliance longevity using common kitchen ingredients.
To achieve smoother clothes, a homemade starch spray can be prepared by mixing 500 ml of water with half a teaspoon of cornstarch. The starch should be dissolved in a small amount of cold water first to prevent clumps before adding the remaining water. This mixture, applied via a spray bottle to slightly damp fabrics like cotton or linen, helps clothes maintain their shape and reduces stubborn wrinkles.
To remove burnt residue from an iron soleplate, salt can be used as a gentle abrasive. By spreading a thin layer of common salt on a piece of non-glossy paper and running a heated iron over it, the burnt particles can be lifted without scratching the protective surface of the appliance. This method avoids the use of harsh chemicals or abrasive tools like knives that might damage the iron.
