Oxygen-based bleach is recommended for significant discoloration as it is less aggressive than chlorine-based bleach. Another option is using baking soda in the washing machine along with detergent to help remove odors and residue. White vinegar can also be used separately to remove deposits and unpleasant smells, though it should not be used simultaneously with baking soda, as the two substances neutralize each other.
