Spain prepares for general strike on November 11

Major labor unions CCOO and UGT, alongside various housing and social organizations, have called for a general strike in Spain on November 11. The mobilization aims to demand improved purchasing power, wage increases, and structural changes to address the housing crisis and rising cost of living.

In addition to labor demands, consumer groups like Facua have called for a ‘shopping strike’ to protest the rising costs of food, electricity, and fuel. Various regional unions, including the CIG in Galicia and movements in the Basque Country and Valencia, have also organized local demonstrations to support the national call.

Business organizations, specifically the CEOE, have expressed opposition to the strike, arguing that the grievances regarding housing are not the responsibility of employers and suggesting the mobilization may have an electoral rather than a strictly labor-related nature. Unions have also warned companies against using teleworking as a means to bypass the strike action.
