Housing activists in Valencia and Almería respond to local government actions

In Valencia, the housing protest group ‘La Acampada de València’ has responded to statements made by Mayor María José Catalá regarding her willingness to engage in dialogue. While the Mayor expressed a readiness to negotiate to balance protests with city life and Christmas commerce, the organization stated they have not yet received any official communication or formal meeting proposal from the City Council. The group maintains its willingness to establish a negotiation table but demands defined interlocutors and concrete follow-up mechanisms.

In Almería, Mayor María del Mar Vázquez welcomed the end of a three-week housing camp in Plaza Circular, describing the withdrawal of tents as a “good result.” The Mayor emphasized that while the right to protest is respected, the “illegal occupation of public space” must be avoided, noting that the city had filed legal complaints due to disruptions in municipal services like cleaning and maintenance. Activists in Almería dismantled their camp on October 25 to pursue other forms of mobilization.
