Housing affordability analysis shows high rental burdens in Italian provinces

An analysis by Quadrivio Group reveals significant disparities in housing affordability across various Italian provinces, measuring the impact of rental costs for an 80-square-meter apartment against the average net income of taxpayers.

In the province of Catanzaro, rental costs consume a substantial portion of income. Nocera Terinese shows the highest impact at 28%, followed by Stalettì at 25% and Satriano at 24%. In the provincial capital of Catanzaro, the cost represents 22% of the average net income, a figure shared by Lamezia Terme, Gizzeria, Squillace, and Borgia.

In the province of Siena, the situation is similarly strained in urban centers. The city of Siena reports that rent for an 80-square-meter apartment absorbs 29% of the average net income, with monthly costs reaching 608 euros. Other high-impact areas include San Gimignano at 26% and Radda in Chianti at 24%. Conversely, affordability improves significantly in rural municipalities such as Chiusi, where rental costs account for only 9% of the average income.
