Housing and urban development leaders mark Arab Housing Day

In observance of Arab and World Housing Day, officials in Jordan and Yemen held events focused on community resilience and urban development.

In Aden, Yemen, the Minister of Public Works and Roads, Hussein Awad Al-Aqrabbi, opened a workshop titled ‘Community Resilience: Building Communities Capable of Adapting.’ The event emphasized that housing development is inextricably linked to essential infrastructure, including water, electricity, and sanitation. The ministry highlighted the urgent need for reconstruction and urban rehabilitation due to previous damage to housing and facilities in the country.

In Jordan, Maher Abu Al-Saman, Minister of Public Works and Housing, stated that the housing and urban development sector is a central pillar of the national economic modernization vision. He noted that Jordan has become the first Arab country and fourth globally to issue a second urban report to monitor its new urban plan. The Jordanian government aims to continue providing serviced land and modern planning tools while strengthening cooperation with Arab and international partners.
