Housing deficit reports highlight regional disparities in Argentina and Mexico

Recent data reveals varying levels of housing deficits and precarious living conditions across different regions. In Mercedes, Argentina, a study by the Centro de Estudios Derecho al Futuro (CEDAF) indicates that 3,070 households, or 11.7 percent of the district, face housing shortages. This figure is lower than the provincial average in Buenos Aires (16.2 percent) and the national average (16.1 percent). Within Mercedes, 701 households require new housing, while 2,369 need improvements or expansions to address issues such as material quality and overcrowding.

In Mexico, data from the Plataforma de Inteligencia Competitiva del Sector Privado (PICSP) shows that 35,039 homes in a specific municipality, representing 10.6 percent of its total housing, are in a state of housing lag. This condition includes homes with precarious materials, lack of sanitation, or overcrowding. While this rate places the municipality third in its state for the lowest housing lag, the state average remains significantly higher at 34.2 percent. Approximately 88.3 percent of these affected homes require specific improvements, while the remainder need expansions or complete replacement.
