Housing delays in Montenegro and landslide risks in Bosnia and Herzegovina
In Montenegro, Ana Novaković Đurović, Vice President of the Civil Movement URA, has criticized the shifting timelines for the Velje brdo housing project. While initial projections suggested residents could move in by June 2026, new reports indicate that construction may not even begin this December. Novaković Đurović argued that Montenegro requires a sustainable housing policy across all municipalities rather than large-scale, infrastructure-heavy projects, proposing a model of building on existing state or municipal land to keep costs affordable.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, residents of Širokača remain in a state of uncertainty due to an ongoing landslide at Curine njive. Despite being ordered to return to their homes by November 7, locals report that no significant remediation work has been completed. Experts from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Sarajevo have stated that the technical situation has not improved since the initial evacuation and that the land remains unstable, posing a continued threat to human lives.
