Housing density proposals submitted in British Columbia
New housing development proposals have been submitted in parts of British Columbia as municipalities respond to provincial mandates for increased density.
In Fort Langley, a development permit has been filed for 9126 Church Street to construct a small-scale multi-unit housing project. The proposal includes two single-family homes, each featuring a secondary suite. This follows provincial rule changes in mid-2024 that allow for three to four units on most urban and suburban lots to streamline housing supply.
In Nanaimo, a proposal for a 63-unit complex has been submitted for a site at 6060 Nelson Road. The project consists of 27 townhouse units across five buildings and 36 units in a three-storey apartment building. The development, which aims to provide housing ranging from studios to four-bedroom units, is being developed in accordance with B.C. Bill 44, which mandates that local governments allow for more diverse and densified housing.
