Housing developments advance in Barnard Castle and Darlington
Residential developers are advancing significant housing projects in County Durham and Darlington.
Bellway Strategic Land has submitted detailed plans for 65 sustainable homes on an eight-acre site on the eastern edge of Barnard Castle. The proposal includes a mix of two- to five-bedroom houses and two-bedroom bungalows. The development aims to address local housing shortages and includes 13 affordable homes for rent or sale at discounted rates. Approximately 72 per cent of the homes are designed for accessibility and lifelong living, featuring energy-efficient designs and stone-fronted exteriors to match the local surroundings.
In Darlington, Homes by Esh has secured planning approval for 230 new homes as part of the Burtree Garden Village project. This development is part of a larger vision to create a 2,000-home garden village that will include a community centre, pub, and health facilities. The new scheme will feature electric vehicle charging points at every property and aims to exceed biodiversity net gain requirements through woodland planting and wildlife corridors.
