Housing policy debates focus on urban growth and elderly care in Sweden and Norway

In Lund, Sweden, HSB Skåne has organized an open housing policy debate scheduled for September 3 at Mejeriet. The event aims to bring together all parties from the municipal executive board to discuss future urban development, housing construction, infrastructure, and how the municipality can meet growing housing needs ahead of the 2026 elections.

In Norway, discussions regarding elderly care and loneliness are also focusing on housing solutions. Architect Henrik Lundberg is hosting a conference in Stavanger on September 3 titled ‘How to build more communities?’. The event addresses the rising number of elderly citizens living alone. While community living projects are being explored, proponents suggest that garden houses and micro-houses on existing family plots could serve as a faster, immediate solution to combat loneliness by allowing seniors to live near family members without waiting for large-scale urban developments.
