Housing projects in Belgium and Netherlands receive planning approvals

In Sint Joris Weert, Belgium, the provincial planning authority reversed a negative opinion and issued a favorable advice for a nine‑apartment development proposed by NV Vandezande, a firm linked to former mayor Albert Vandezande. The change was supported by the N‑VA, CD&V and Open VLD coalition in the provincial deputation, allowing the project to proceed despite earlier concerns about access and flood‑risk land.

In Veghel, Netherlands, the Council of State dismissed all objections from local residents, clearing the way for the Dorshout site to host a complex of 100 tiny houses intended to temporarily accommodate up to 500 migrant workers. The municipality of Meierijstad had granted the permit in 2023, and the court found the location suitable and compliant with municipal policy, noting the housing would be temporary and subject to strict rules to prevent disturbance.
