Housing rights groups denounce evictions in Leganés and Gran Canaria

Multiple eviction cases in Spain have sparked protests and criticism from housing rights groups regarding administrative handling and vulnerability protections.

In Leganés, a 62-year-old widow and her five children faced a second eviction attempt within a week from their public housing. The Plataforma de Afectados por la Hipoteca (PAH) reported that the Agencia de Vivienda Social (AVS) of the Community of Madrid changed the eviction date without providing sufficient time for the family to submit required documentation, despite a previous suspension intended to allow for such paperwork.

In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, a mother and her two minors were evicted from their home in the Pedro Hidalgo neighborhood. The eviction proceeded despite a vulnerability report submitted by the City Council on the morning of the event. Activists from the Derecho al Techo collective noted that a previous eviction attempt had been suspended during the summer due to the presence of minors, but the current judicial order was executed regardless of the local government's assessment of the family's situation.
