Housing rights protesters establish camp in Vigo and dismantle camp in Oviedo
Housing rights activists in Spain are utilizing different tactics to protest housing access issues. In Vigo, a protest camp established in the Alameda on October 12 has released a manual of good practices to regulate coexistence. The guidelines prohibit alcohol and drug use, mandate cleanliness, and restrict noise levels, particularly at night. The camp also features dedicated support points for health, LGTB+ issues, and women (punto violeta) to prevent discrimination and harassment.
In Oviedo, participants at the La Escandalera plaza camp have begun dismantling their tents, a process expected to conclude by October 29. Organized by the Sindicato de Inquilinas, Sindicatu de Vivienda d’Asturies, and Asamblea Moza de Asturies (AMA), the group stated they have achieved many of their objectives. The collective intends to shift its focus toward organizing a general strike scheduled for November 11.
