Housing shortages impact vulnerable women and children in Germany

Social organizations in Germany are highlighting the increasing impact of housing shortages on vulnerable groups, particularly women and children. The Sozialdienst katholischer Frauen (SkF) noted that the lack of affordable housing is straining social infrastructure, including youth and family services. Yvonne Fritz, board member of the SkF, stated that housing scarcity is a social issue that can increase costs in child and youth welfare by delaying the stability of families.

In Marl, local reports indicate a rise in homelessness threats. Caritas Marl reported that 815 people were at risk of homelessness in 2025, with a significant increase in immediate evictions, which rose from 153 to 232 within a single year. The organization highlighted cases of single parents facing sudden homelessness following domestic separations or financial instability, emphasizing the need for more affordable housing and coordinated social action.
