Houston-area early voting turnout surges in Texas

Early voting participation is seeing a significant increase across several Houston-area counties in Texas. In Brazoria, Fort Bend, and Harris counties, voter turnout has nearly doubled compared to the same period during the 2022 midterm elections.

In Brazoria County, more than 27,000 people have voted in person during the first two days of early voting, compared to just over 14,000 in 2022. Fort Bend County has also reported nearly double the turnout, with over 60,000 people voting in person this week compared to approximately 33,000 during the same period in 2022. Harris County has recorded more than 230,000 in-person and mail-in ballots, up from roughly 144,000 at the same stage four years ago.

Data from Harris County also indicates a shift in polling site popularity. The Richard and Meg Weekley Community Center in Cypress has become the county’s most-visited location, surpassing the West Gray Multi-Service Center near downtown. Experts suggest the high turnout may be driven by the competitive Senate race between Ken Paxton and James Talarico.
