Houston Astros clinch AL West title with season finale win
The Houston Astros clinched the American League West title on the final day of the regular season, defeating the Oakland Athletics 9-0 at Sutter Health Park. The victory, combined with a Texas Rangers loss to the Minnesota Twins, secured the division crown for Houston. The Astros finished the season with an 81-81 record, making them one of the few teams in MLB history to win a division with a .500 winning percentage.
Yordan Alvarez had a standout performance, securing his first batting title with a .316 average and finishing the season with 42 home runs. Other key contributors included Lucas Spence, who hit a two-run triple, and Christian Walker, who hit a solo home run. Tatsuya Imai appeared as a reliever in the final game, pitching one scoreless inning to close out the matchup.
The Astros are now set to host the Chicago White Sox in a best-of-three wild-card series starting Tuesday.
