Houston Astros lead AL West amid injury concerns
The Houston Astros hold a slim lead in the American League West with a 64-63 record, though their position is precarious due to a -30 run differential. The division remains highly competitive, with the Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners closely pursuing the top spot as the season enters its final stages.
During a recent series against the Los Angeles Angels, Astros shortstop Jeremy Peña sustained a left-hand contusion after being hit by a 100 mph sinker. While an MRI revealed no structural damage, Peña remains sore. Manager Joe Espada expressed optimism that Peña may avoid an injured list stint.
To address roster needs, the Astros have called up infielder Raynel Delgado from Triple-A Sugar Land, designating outfielder Nelson Velasquez for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.
