Houston Astros part ways with manager Joe Espada

The Houston Astros have announced they will not renew manager Joe Espada’s contract, ending his three-season tenure with the club. The decision follows the team’s postseason exit, where they were swept by the Chicago White Sox in the American League Wild Card series. During his time as manager, Espada led the Astros to two American League West division titles but failed to secure a postseason series victory, finishing with a total record of 256-229.

In addition to Espada’s departure, the organization is undergoing significant leadership changes. The team is currently searching for a new general manager following the dismissal of Dana Brown in August. The Astros also announced several coaching staff departures, including catching instructor Tim Cossins, game planning coach Tommy Kawamura, third base coach Tony Perezchica, assistant hitting coach Anthony Iapoce, and assistant pitching coach Ethan Katz.

Bench coach Omar Lopez has been offered a new role within the organization. Several coaches will remain for the 2027 season, including pitching coach Josh Miller, hitting coach Victor Rodriguez, and first base coach Dave Clark. Espada has reportedly been granted permission to interview for a managerial vacancy with the Seattle Mariners.
