Houston Cougars wide receiver Muizz Tounkara sidelined with foot injury
Houston Cougars football began fall camp with a month left before the 2026 season opener against Oregon State on Sept. 5. The team returns key starters such as quarterback Conner Weigman and wide receiver Amare Thomas, and has added several transfers, including senior wide receiver Muizz Tounkara, who transferred from Florida.
Coach Willie Fritz announced that Tounkara suffered a left‑foot injury that will keep him out for about four weeks. He was seen at the first practice on crutches but remained active in supporting teammates. The injury raises questions about his availability for the season start, as the Cougars look to build on their returning talent and new additions.
The Cougars also added other transfers—running back Makhi Hughes from Oregon, guard Shadre Hurst from Tulane, and wide receivers Trent Walker from Oregon State and Tyson Turner from Texas Tech—aiming to strengthen both offense and defense for the upcoming campaign.
