Houston launches back-to-school supply fair and restaurant fundraiser on August 1
The City of Houston will hold its 16th Annual Back-to-School and Health Fair on Saturday, August 1, 2026. Organized by the Mayor’s Office of Special Events in partnership with Shell and other sponsors, the free event will distribute backpacks, notebooks, pencils and other school supplies to an estimated 500,000 families across the metropolitan area. Health stations will offer vision screenings, dental exams and vaccination services.
Starting the same day, Houston Restaurant Weeks runs from August 1 through September 7, 2026. Hundreds of restaurants across the city and surrounding suburbs will feature fixed‑price brunch and lunch menus at $25 and dinner menus at $39 or $55. Each meal generates a $1‑$5 donation to the Houston Food Bank, which supports families in 18 Texas counties.
