Houston resident launches initiative to manage feral cat population
Aleshia Spence is working to address the feral cat population in Houston by providing care to sick and injured felines. Since April, Spence has treated animals suffering from various diseases, including feline herpes, parvo, mycoplasma, and chlamydia, as well as physical injuries.
Spence is organizing a charitable organization named the Luna Safe Haven Feline Society to manage the issue. The initiative includes a trap, neuter, and release program. Under this plan, cats will be housed until they have healed and will be returned to their original locations with clipped ears to indicate they have been processed. Local veterinarian Katie Myron is assisting with medical assessments, while Janelle Johnson is managing fundraising efforts.
