Houston judge denies bond for teen accused of killing Westbury High School student
A 17-year-old suspect, Travoris Hines, has been denied bond following a fatal shooting near Westbury High School in Houston. Hines is charged with murder and unlawful carrying of a weapon in the death of 17-year-old LePaul Warren.
According to Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare, Hines is a former student of the school who had previously withdrawn to pursue a GED. While the relationship between the suspect and the victim is currently unknown, prosecutors have denied suspicions that the incident was tied to gang violence. The shooting occurred near an off-campus location where students frequently gather in the morning. The suspect reportedly claimed he fired out of fear, though investigators are still working to clarify the circumstances leading up to the event. A hearing to determine if Hines will remain in custody without bond is expected in mid-October.
