Houston Texans quarterback C. J. Stroud focuses on play, not contract, during offseason
Quarterback C. J. Stroud is entering his fourth season with the Houston Texans. The team exercised his fifth‑year option, keeping him under contract through 2027, but he says contract discussions are being handled by his agent and he is concentrating on football.
Stroud emphasized that recent playoff struggles, including a loss in which he threw four first‑half interceptions, are driving his motivation rather than any contract talk. He noted that his job is to get better on the field and let the business side be managed elsewhere.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans praised Stroud’s dedication, describing the 2026 offseason as his first fully engaged one, highlighting his accountability, work ethic, and communication with staff and teammates. Stroud has also made visible offseason changes, such as a new haircut, tattoos, and diet adjustments.
Statistically, Stroud posted career‑high numbers last season—3,041 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, a strong completion percentage and passer rating—while recovering from a prior pectoral strain and a concussion. The Texans have captured two AFC South titles and made multiple playoff appearances with Stroud at quarterback.
