Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud amid trade talks and teammate backing

Analyst Marcus Whitman sparked speculation that the Houston Texans could trade quarterback C.J. Stroud to the New York Jets for two first‑round picks. A social‑media poll showed only 8% of respondents favored the deal, while 43.2% opposed it. Stroud, 24, is a former Offensive Rookie of the Year and Pro Bowl selection who has started 46 games, thrown for 10,876 yards and posted a 62‑to‑25 touchdown‑interception tally. The Texans have exercised his fifth‑year option but have not rushed to sign a long‑term extension.

Teammate offensive guard Ed Ingram publicly defended Stroud, stating, "I want people to put some respect on my boy No. 7, C.J. Stroud," and praising his consistency, noting that he has helped the Texans reach the playoffs each of the past three seasons. Ingram emphasized his confidence that Stroud will lead the team to unprecedented success in the upcoming 2026 season.
