Houston Texans evaluate former Vikings RB Alexander Mattison in training camp
The Houston Texans hosted workouts on July 30, 2026 for veteran running backs Alexander Mattison and Hassan Haskins. Mattison, a former Minnesota Vikings third‑round pick who accumulated 2,370 rushing yards over five seasons, is seeking to revive his career after a neck injury that landed him on injured reserve with the Miami Dolphins in August 2025.
Mattison will face a crowded Texans backfield. The team entered camp with David Montgomery, acquired in the offseason, and rookie Woody Marks as the top two rushers. Additional candidates include Jawhar Jordan, British Brooks, Noah Whittington and Evan Hull, all competing for reserve and special‑teams roles. While a workout does not guarantee a contract, Mattison’s experience and recent health progress make him a notable option for a final roster spot.
The Texans also evaluated free‑agent wide receiver Montrell Washington and defensive lineman Evan Anderson, but the running back workouts received the most attention as the franchise fine‑tunes its depth chart ahead of the season.
