Houthi forces arrest Yemeni media director Sadiq Shali in Mocha

The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate has reported that the Houthi group arrested Sadiq Shali, the director of the media center for the government-aligned National Resistance forces. The arrest took place at Shali’s home in the city of Mocha, located in the Taiz governorate, last Thursday.

The Syndicate has called for Shali’s immediate release and the disclosure of his current location, holding the Houthi group responsible for his safety. The organization stated that the detention of journalists due to their professional work or political stances constitutes a violation of press freedom and the right to expression.

In addition to the arrest, the Syndicate expressed concern regarding the humanitarian situation of journalists in Mocha. Recent escalations in fighting have reportedly forced dozens of journalists to displace toward Aden, where they are facing difficult living conditions.

The arrest occurs amid intensified military confrontations on Yemen’s west coast. While the Houthi group recently claimed control over several directorates in Al Hudaydah and Taiz, as well as islands in the Red Sea, government forces have reported advances in the Al Jawf governorate near the Saudi Arabian border.
