Houthi rebels claim to shoot down Saudi F-15 jet in Yemen
Houthi rebels in Yemen claim to have shot down a Saudi Arabian F-15 fighter jet over the Marib province using a locally manufactured surface-to-air missile. The group released video footage purportedly showing the aircraft being tracked, the moment of impact, and the resulting wreckage on the ground. Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree also stated that other Saudi aircraft, including Eurofighter Typhoons, were forced to withdraw after being targeted by missiles while searching for the wreckage.
While the Houthi claims have been supported by footage showing debris with Saudi markings, the Saudi Arabian government has not officially confirmed the loss of the aircraft.
In a separate development, reports from the Wall Street Journal and weapons experts indicate that debris from a Chinese-designed DF-15A ballistic missile was discovered in Yemen. Saudi officials suggested that the Houthi rebels do not possess such missiles, which may imply that Saudi Arabia has deployed the Chinese-made weaponry in the conflict for the first time.
