Houthi movement marks 12 years of Sanaa control amid rising military losses

The Houthi movement marks the 12th anniversary of its takeover of Sanaa, a pivotal moment in the Yemeni conflict that has resulted in a divided nation with two separate governments and economies. Recent reports indicate significant military and human losses for the Houthi militia. In a single 24-hour period, over 73 militants were reportedly buried, including 25 high-ranking commanders. Since mid-July, casualties among Houthi members and leaders have reportedly exceeded 413. This surge in losses has reportedly led to heightened security alerts across Sanaa and several other provinces, including Saada, Hajjah, and Hudaydah.

Amidst these losses and increased military pressure—including strikes related to Red Sea maritime tensions—leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi is reportedly living in extreme isolation within caves in Saada to avoid direct targeting. The group faces mounting pressure from international coalitions and recent military strikes on vital facilities in Hudaydah.
