Houthi rebels launch rocket attack on Yemen security camp

Houthi militants have claimed responsibility for a rocket attack on a training camp for police and security forces in Yemen’s energy-rich Shabwa Governorate. The attack, which reportedly involved three missiles, targeted forces aligned with the internationally recognized government.

Military sources indicate that more than 30 soldiers were killed or injured, while local authorities reported a higher death toll of 53 people, though this figure has not been independently verified. The Houthi rebels, who are supported by Iran, stated that the strike was aimed at Saudi-aligned forces in the region.

Rashad al-Alimi, president of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, stated that such attacks would not prevent the state from protecting its citizens or rebuilding national institutions. The escalation occurs amid a broader offensive by the Houthi rebels, who have seized parts of Yemen’s western coast along the Red Sea and targeted locations in Saudi Arabia, including an airport in Riyadh.
