Houthis launch large-scale rocket and drone attack in Yemen, killing at least 38

The Houthi movement in Yemen said it carried out a large‑scale operation using rockets and unmanned aerial vehicles against forces loyal to the internationally recognised government. The attacks hit camps in the provinces of Al Ruwaiq, Al Ambr and Al Thanigya, as well as sites in Marib and near the Saudi border in Khamr, killing at least 38 government soldiers and wounding 29 others. Houthi spokesmen claimed the strikes also injured or killed hundreds of fighters linked to Saudi Arabia.

Medical sources cited by the French agency confirmed the casualty figures, which represent the deadliest single incident since the 2022 ceasefire. The Houthis said the assaults were a response to a recent “significant reinforcement” of government forces backed by Saudi Arabia. The United States diplomatic mission in Yemen expressed condolences to the families of the fallen and condemned the attacks as another example of Houthi terrorism.

The fighting is part of the broader Yemeni civil war that began in 2014, when the Houthis seized large territories, including the capital Sana’a, and forced the government to rely on a Saudi‑led coalition. After a four‑year ceasefire, hostilities have resumed, with the latest attacks underscoring the fragile security situation in the region.
