Google launches Googlebook laptop category with Gemini AI
Google has launched a new category of premium laptops called ‘Googlebook’, designed to bridge the gap between the Android mobile ecosystem and desktop computing. Running on the new Googlebook OS—which combines Android technology with ChromeOS desktop foundations—these devices feature deep integration with Android smartphones, allowing users to seamlessly access mobile apps, files, and settings.
Central to the platform is the integration of Gemini AI, which powers features such as ‘Magic Pointer’ for AI-assisted cursor interactions and context-aware suggestions. The hardware lineup is being produced by five major partners: Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo.
Specifications vary by manufacturer. For example, HP and Dell models utilize the Snapdragon X Elite platform, while ASUS offers an ultra-lightweight 14-inch model weighing under one kilogram. Acer provides a 2-in-1 convertible option. Pricing for the series starts at approximately $899, with retail availability beginning in the United States on October 4, 2026, followed by markets including Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Australia.
