Huawei and HP sign multi-year Wi-Fi patent cross-licensing deal
Huawei and HP Inc. have entered into a multi-year global patent cross-licensing agreement covering advanced Wi-Fi technologies, including the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard. Under the terms of the deal, HP gains access to Huawei’s intellectual property, while Huawei receives access to certain HP patents.
This agreement follows previous legal disputes between the two companies. In August 2025, Huawei filed a lawsuit against HP at the European Unified Patent Court regarding alleged unauthorized use of Wi-Fi 6 technology. HP had previously addressed related disputes by joining the Sisvel Wi-Fi 6 patent pool in November 2025.
HP has clarified that this is a routine licensing arrangement for standard-essential patents (SEP) and does not constitute a broader strategic or commercial partnership. The company emphasized that it does not use Huawei components or technology in its supply chain.
Despite Huawei being on the US Entity List since 2019, the licensing agreement is not prohibited by current US trade restrictions. The financial terms of the agreement remain undisclosed.
