Hôpital Immaculée Conception des Cayes announces free breast cancer screening

The Hôpital Immaculée Conception des Cayes (HIC) in Haiti has announced a five-day free breast cancer screening campaign scheduled from October 26 to October 30, 2026. The initiative is part of the ‘Octobre Rose’ awareness program.

Dr. Pierre James, head of surgery at the hospital and general coordinator of the campaign, noted that while the initial screening is free, the program lacks the resources to cover any necessary follow-up or complementary examinations. However, the medical team has committed to facilitating medical follow-up and guiding patients with suspicious results toward appropriate care.

This campaign follows two years of awareness efforts in the South department. Dr. James reported that since the initiative began in 2024, it has reached approximately ten towns and fifty educational and religious institutions through various outreach activities, including door-to-door visits.
