HPLS hosts community event in Donaldsonville, Louisiana

HPLS, a joint venture involving Hyundai Steel and POSCO, hosted a ‘Community Day’ event in Donaldsonville, Louisiana, to engage with local residents ahead of its upcoming construction phase. Approximately 700 people, including Donaldsonville Mayor Leroy Sullivan, attended the gathering at Louisiana Square.

The event aimed to increase local understanding of the electric arc furnace steel mill and Korean culture. Activities included musical performances by local artists, interactive games related to the mill’s projected 2029 completion date, and a food selection featuring both local Louisiana dishes and Korean cuisine.

HPLS CEO Kim Hyung-jin presented appreciation plaques to Mayor Sullivan and Ascension Parish officials for their cooperation during the project's preparation. The facility is intended to serve as a strategic hub for Hyundai Steel’s global expansion and a base for transitioning to low-carbon production systems. The mill is targeted for completion in 2029 with an annual production capacity of 2.7 million tons.
