HPNLU student hospitalized after alleged suicide attempt and harassment claims

A third-year BA LLB student at Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU) in Shimla is undergoing treatment at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital following a suicide attempt on Tuesday night. The student, identified as Nikhil Prakash, allegedly attempted to hang himself in his hostel room.

Prior to the incident, the student recorded a video alleging harassment by the university administration. He claimed that a ragging complaint filed against him by batchmates was false and that the university refused to examine evidence in his defense. His family further alleged that he faced immense mental pressure and was isolated in a different hostel following the complaint.

University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Preeti Saxena stated that the institution is examining the matter under anti-ragging regulations and applicable laws. Local police are conducting an inquiry, including looking into provisions related to abetment to suicide. An FIR has been lodged at the Arki Police Station.
