HPV vaccination reduces cervical cancer mortality in UK

A study published in The Lancet by researchers from Queen Mary University of London indicates that early HPV vaccination significantly reduces cervical cancer mortality rates in the United Kingdom.

Analysis of vaccination records and mortality data for women aged 20 to 34 shows that those vaccinated at ages 12 to 13 face a near-zero risk of dying from cervical cancer before age 30. Since the implementation of the vaccination program in 2008, scientists estimate that approximately 200 deaths have been prevented in the UK.

For women in the 30 to 34 age group who received the vaccine, the risk of death decreased by 63% compared to unvaccinated individuals. Notably, between 2020 and 2024, the UK recorded no deaths from cervical cancer among women aged 20 to 24 for the first time in history.
