HR practices shift toward continuous performance development
Modern organizations are facing a disconnect between traditional human resources practices and evolving employee expectations. While technology and AI offer increased efficiency, there is a growing need to prioritize human connection, trust, and empathy to maintain meaningful workplaces.
Research from Cornell University’s Center for Advanced Human Resource Studies indicates that current systems often fail to motivate; only one in five employees feels motivated by their company’s performance management system, and only 32% of executives believe their systems enable high-quality talent decisions.
There is a notable shift occurring from annual reviews toward continuous feedback and from evaluating past performance toward supporting future development. To succeed, organizations must move from mere performance management to performance development, which requires providing leaders with clear expectations, strong role models, and integrated technology to reduce administrative burdens and focus on coaching.
