Hracholusky Reservoir low water reveals submerged Dolany village
Low water levels at the Hracholusky Reservoir near Plzeň have revealed remnants of the submerged village of Dolany. The reservoir's water level has dropped approximately 4.5 to 6 meters below seasonal norms, exposing tree stumps and orchard remains from the area that was flooded during the reservoir's construction between 1959 and 1964.
When the reservoir was created, approximately 140 structures were demolished or submerged, including the villages of Dolany and Těchodly, parts of Butov, seven mills, and a hydroelectric plant. While Dolany was systematically demolished before flooding, some wall remnants in neighboring Těchodly remain visible to divers at depths of 17 to 25 meters.
The historical site is also notable as the location associated with the renowned internist Rudolf von Jaksche. Beyond the historical interest, the drought has caused practical issues for local residents, with some nearby wells running dry due to the receding water table.
