Spanish second‑division promotion playoffs intensify ahead of June finals

The LaLiga Hypermotion promotion playoffs begin on 6‑7 June with two semi‑final ties: CD Castellón host UD Almería and UD Las Palmas face Málaga CF. The matches will be shown only on pay‑TV platforms such as Movistar Plus, Orange TV, Digi TV, Vodafone TV and DAZN.

Málaga CF entered the playoffs having cleared all disciplinary cards, so none of its players face suspension at the start of the tie against Las Palmas.

Relegation from the Segunda División to Primera RFEF cuts clubs' television income dramatically, dropping from roughly €6 million in the professional tier to around €400 thousand under the new broadcast arrangement. To mitigate the loss, LaLiga provides a compensation fund of at least €1.25 million for one season, provided clubs meet financial obligations. The lower division also switches from VAR to the experimental Football Video Support system and sees clubs move to municipal stadiums with artificial pitches.
