Mickoski links Tsar Samuil remains transfer to Bled Agreement

North Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski has commented on the transfer of the remains identified as Tsar Samuil from Greece to Bulgaria. Mickoski framed the event within the context of the post-World War II Bled Agreement, drawing a parallel to the historical transfer of Goce Delchev's remains to Skopje.

Mickoski criticized previous political leaders for describing the Bulgarian presence in present-day North Macedonia during World War II as “administration” rather than “occupation.” He emphasized that the remains of Goce Delchev, which were brought to Skopje as a result of the Bled Agreement, serve as a symbol of Macedonian national identity.

The transfer of the remains has sparked significant debate regarding historical identity and regional relations. While the event is presented in Bulgaria as a matter of historical justice, it remains a point of contention in North Macedonia, where it is viewed through the lens of ongoing disputes over history and heritage.
