HÜRJET jet trainer completes first production flight
Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) has successfully completed the maiden flight of the first production-line HÜRJET jet trainer, intended for delivery to the Turkish Air Force. The flight, which lasted 18 minutes, took place on August 30, coinciding with Turkey’s Victory Day. This milestone marks the transition of the HÜRJET program from the prototype testing phase to active operational production.
Developed under the coordination of the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), the HÜRJET is a supersonic, single-engine advanced jet trainer designed to replace the aging Northrop T-38 Talon and F-5 fleets. The aircraft is powered by a General Electric F404 engine and is capable of reaching speeds of Mach 1.4.
Following the successful completion of ground and taxi tests, the first production aircraft (identified as TUS-A020) flew alongside one of the existing development prototypes. The program, which began in 2017, aims to produce an initial batch of aircraft for the Turkish Air Force, with plans to eventually expand production to meet both domestic needs and potential international interest.
