HÜRKUŞ-II receives Turkey's first domestic Military Type Certificate
Turkey has achieved a major milestone in its defense industry as the HÜRKUŞ-II, a domestically developed aircraft, has received its first Military Type Certificate. The certification, approved on September 9, 2026, by a board comprising personnel from the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) and the Air Force Command, marks the country's ability to not only design and produce aircraft but also to test, verify, and certify them using entirely domestic human resources.
The rigorous certification process spanned 12 technical disciplines, including avionics, software, flight performance, and cabin safety. During this period, 1,790 certification requirements were verified, 950 technical evidence documents were reviewed, and 153 certification tests were conducted. The effort involved a large-scale collaboration between TUSAŞ, the SSB, the Ministry of National Defense, and the Air Force Command.
Following the certification, Defense Industry President Haluk Görgün and Air Force Commander General Rafet Dalkıran participated in test flights of both the HÜRKUŞ-II and the HÜRJET. Görgün noted that the first HÜRKUŞ-II aircraft are expected to be delivered to the Air Force Command in the near future. Additionally, flight tests for the HÜRJET were conducted to evaluate the integration of the ASELSAN-developed MURAD AESA radar.
