Hrvatska Kostajnica marks 35th anniversary of Croatian population expulsion

A roundtable discussion was held in Hrvatska Kostajnica to mark the 35th anniversary of the expulsion of the Croatian population from the city. On July 31, 1991, approximately 2,000 residents were forced to flee due to attacks by the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) and Serbian paramilitary units, involving mortar shelling, aerial bombardment, and systematic intimidation.

The event, organized by the City of Hrvatska Kostajnica and the Association for Vukovar, featured testimonies from survivors, medical staff, and local officials regarding the defense of the city and the role of the Church. A documentary exhibition titled "Testimonies of Expulsion" was also presented.

In a separate context regarding regional relations, commentator Ivica Granić addressed the divergent historical narratives between Croatia and Serbia. He noted that while Croatia commemorates military victories, Serbian public discourse often focuses on the suffering caused by operations like Storm (Oluja), framed within a narrative of continuous victimhood.
